FIRST DOLLAR DRESS DAY:  Our first “Dollar Dress Day” or out of uniform day, will be held this WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 28.  In order to participate, you must pay your homeroom teacher $1 as you enter the classroom on Wednesday morning.  TITAN PASS HOLDERS:  you do not have to pay $1, you just have to show your teacher your Titan Pass!  Your clothing must be school appropriate (no torn jeans, no overly revealing tops or bottoms, etc.).  If your clothes are not school appropriate, you will be required to change. Homeroom teachers, please turn the money in to Julia Luna by the end of Wednesday, September 28.
SENIOR RECYCLE:  The "Clean and Recycle Campaign" will start next week for all seniors. Three boxes will be placed in each senior homeroom to collect paper, plastic, and aluminum cans.  Please help change the world at the same time you help some of your seniors complete their CAS project.
Amazing Class of 2012:  Extended Essays are Due September 30th!  Full Draft includes Abstract, Title Page, Table of Contents, Works Cited, etc.  EVERYTHING should be in MLA format (please read through your Extended Essay handouts in your binder and see your Supervisor or Ms. Navalta if you have questions).  Don't forget page numbers, and 12 point font using Times New Roman (Check the Green Handout that your Supervisor gave you in Homeroom last week).  Ms. Navalta has extras if you misplaced your copy.  Remember Principle 9:  Few things are as potentially difficult, frustrating, or frightening, as genuine learning, yet nothing is so rewarding and empowering.
10th grade students:  At this time, you have already attended the Personal Project Orientation and have already gotten started on it. You will turn in your topic selection form on Friday, 9/30. If you have any questions about this, please contact your supervisor or the Personal Project Coordinators - Ms. Estrada at 975-1402 or Ms. Montalvo 373-7769.
GANAS STORE:  The Ganas Store is open!!!  Make sure to get permission & a pass from your teacher to go with your Ganas to Mrs. Cavazos-Escamilla’s office to purchase school supplies and small items. 
JSA:  There will be a JSA meeting on Monday in Mr. Cabrera’s room (313) from 4:00-5:30.  Everyone is invited, please bring your $3 membership tax if you haven’t paid yet.  This is the last meeting we’ll accept new members!
IDEA’S GOT TALENT:  On October 7 during assembly time, students and staff will get the chance to showcase their special talents!  Since assemblies have gone so well lately, we want to reward you with a talent show!  If you are interested in performing, see Ms. Lopez.  The BRAND NEW Titan Drumline will be performing!
TITAN CHESS TEAM:  New members are welcome!  Students must register for USCF membership.  See Mrs. Olmos for details.  Chess practices are held every Monday in room 12 on the boardwalk from 3:50-5:00 PM.  The next tournament is at BL Gray Middle School, Sharyland, Texas on October 15. Tournament fee is S14.00 (bring fee by Monday October 3).  The IDEA Titan Chess Team is proudly representing our community!
FRIDAY ASSEMBLY:  Students will not have a high school assembly on Friday, September 30 due to Early Release.  On October 7, we will be hosting an event called “IDEA’s Got Talent” where you will hear from IDEA’s very own drumline, amongst other talented individuals.  If you have a talent you’d like to showcase, let Ms. Lopez know!
ATHLETICS:  Volleyball Junior Varsity and Varsity have games away on Thursday, 9/29, against IDEA San Benito.  The JV Games start at 6 p.m. and Varsity starts at 7:00 p.m. Our Lady Titans are now undefeated in charter league play!  Come out and support the Lady Titans in their quest to make the playoffs!!!
ATHLETICS:  Varsity Flag Football Players will play a double header against IDEA San Juan on Saturday, 9/24/2011 at 9:00 a.m. and against IDEA San Benito at 11:00 a.m. Games are played at McAllen West Side Park (Softball Complex & Soccer Fields), 1000 S. Ware Road, McAllen.  Come out and support the Donna Titans new Flag Football Team in their quest to make the playoffs!!!
ACADEMIC COMPETITIONS:  If you are interested in competing in the areas of Math, Science and/or Spelling, please see Mrs. Hinojosa and meet in her computer lab on Tuesday from 4:00-5:30 in Room 316.
TITANS FOR CHRIST:  If you are interested in finding out about a new student organization called Titans for Christ, please meet in Mrs. Hinojosa’s computer lab on Monday from 4:00-5:30.  The organization Titans for Christ signifies loyalty, faithfulness, respect and leadership.   If you have any questions, please speak with Kimberly Castillo or Vasthi Fernandez.
ANIME:  The anime club is looking for new recruits!  If you like watching anime, come join us every other Friday in Room 11 on the Boardwalk.  If you have any questions, ask Dakota Dodson, Briana Garcia or Roberto Ortiz.

MONDAY 9/19


12th grade Diploma candidates:  CAS journal, including completed forms distributed by Ms. Montalvo, along with the reflection and evidence for at least one of your CAS activities, is due on Wednesday September 21st. You must bring your CAS journal to school that day so she can see it!

ATHLETICS:  Volleyball Junior Varsity and Varsity have games on Tuesday, 9/20, at home vs. IDEA Mission.  On Friday, 9/23/2011, the Lady Titans face off against the IDEA San Juan Saints at home.  The JV Games start at 6 p.m. and Varsity starts at 7:00 p.m.  The cost to enter the game is $1.00 for students (or 4 ganas—these have to be issued to you—you can’t give someone else your Ganas so they can pay for their admission) and $2.00 for adult admission. Teachers get in free!!! Come out and support the Lady Titans in their quest to make the playoffs!!!

STUDENT COUNCIL:  We will be voting during Homeroom next Wednesday & Friday for Student Council Officers. 
PERSONAL PROJECT 10th GRADE– We will have a Personal Project mandatory meeting on Tuesday, September 13th in the cafeteria from 5:00pm to 6:00pm. Please remind your parents that attendance to this meeting is required. Let Ms. Montalvo know if you have any questions or are unable to attend so arranges can be made.
FRIDAY ASSEMBLY:  Students will not have a high school assembly on Friday, September 16 at 2:00.  The reason we are not having assembly is because we are having a districtwide IDEA College Fair in the gym from 1-3 that day.
ATHLETICS:  Volleyball Junior Varsity and Varsity have games on Tuesday, September 13 vs. IDEA Alamo.  The JV begins at 6:00 p.m. and the Varsity plays at 7:30.  Come out and support the Lady Titans at their away game!!!

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS:  If you are interested in starting a student organization or club, pick up a CLUB AUTHORIZATION FORM outside the high school teacher’s lounge.  When the form is complete, turn it in to the box outside Ms. Lopez’s door.

ANNOUNCEMENTS! FOR WEEK 9/6-9/9
  1. GANAS STORE:  The Ganas Store is open!!!  Make sure to get permission & a pass from your teacher to go with your Ganas to Mrs. Cavazos-Escamilla’s office to purchase school supplies and small items.
  2. STUDENT COUNCIL:  Student Council is starting immediately!  Student Council is seeking student leaders who are model IDEA and IB students. Applications for Student Council Officers are available outside of Mrs. Cisneros’ door (11th/12th grade building art room).  Applications are due TODAY, Tuesday, September 6, 2011. 
  3. TITAN CHESS TEAM:  Students who are interested in joining the chess team must sign up with Mrs. Olmos. Mrs. Olmos & Coach Garza will be sponsoring this team.  An informational parent and student meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 6th from 4:00-5:00 in room 12 on the boardwalk. 
  4. FRIDAY ASSEMBLY:  Students will have a high school assembly on Friday, September 9 at 2:00.  The theme for this week’s assembly will be “Student Council” and you will get the opportunity to hear students give their speeches for Officer Elections. 
  5. ATHLETICS:  Volleyball Junior Varsity and Varsity have games on Saturday, 9/10, at home vs. IDEA San Benito.  The JV Game starts at 9 a.m. and Varsity starts at 10:30 a.m.  The cost to enter the game is $1.00 for students (or 4 ganas—these have to be issued to you—you can’t give someone else your Ganas so they can pay for their admission) and $2.00 for adult admission.  Come out and support the Lady Titans in their FIRST CHARTER DISTRICT GAME!!! 
  6. ATHLETICS:  Varsity Flag Football Players will have their FIRST EVER FLAG FOOTBALL GAME on Saturday, 9/10/2011 at 9:00 a.m.  Location will be announced later!!!  Come out and support the Donna Titans new Flag Football Team! 
  7. DANCE:  If you are interested in being on the Dance Team, please attend a meeting in the gym on Wednesday, 9/6/2011, from 5:30-6:30 p.m.

If we need to schedule a HR Math tutoring Edna and I are willing to help everyone.  I will reprint your QL grades Thursday.  Progress report cards will be going out next week so PLEASE give 100% everyday and ASK questions if your are in the black hole of darkness in class.
